Issue 14: Catch me – or at least my work – in a local bookstore!
Plus: Highlights from an iconic all-Indigenous drag show. (Happy Pride!)
Strawberries,
Hello!
Some of you have reported, much to my relief and delight, that you’ve (finally!) received the chapbook(s) you ordered. Thanks a million for your patience…and for passing along this wonderful news (and for, ya know, ordering the chapbook in the first place!).
If you STILL have not received your order (or at least some kind of shipping update), please let me know. As I said, I’m doing very my best to get to the bottom of these delays.
Ok, let’s get to it…
1. Poetry: Off the internet and into some bookstores!
Fun thing to report: You can now find The Funny Thing About A Panic Attack (in person!) in a handful of indie bookstores…with more to come, so stay tuned. A few photos to prove it:
Zibby’s Bookshop (Santa Monica, CA)
Unnameable Books (Prospect Heights, Brooklyn)
Small World Books (Venice, CA) (Not pictured: My face)
2. Client Work: Highlights from IllumiNative’s All-Indigenous Drag Show
I worked on marketing and social media for this scintillating, powerful, and truly iconic celebration of queer Indigenous talent and creativity, and of Two-Spirit and Indigenous LGBTQ+ folks everywhere. Watch the video!
3. Miscellaneous recs…
…Coming in HOT:
“By and By” by Caamp: A moving, gorgeous, and poignant meditation on nostalgia, longing, and regret. A sad song that demands non-stop listening.
“A Queen of Sorts” (30 for 30 podcast): Perhaps my favorite podcast episode ever, this story investigates the world-famous poker player who teamed up with a mysterious woman to pull off one of the most lucrative gambling schemes in history. His goal: money. Hers: revenge.
The Water Dancer: This compelling read from Ta-Nehisi Coates is, at once, historical fiction, fantasy, social commentary, and a dynamic spy novel.
That’s all!
With love and thanks and indie bookstores,
Ben
