Issue 25: I wrote a solo show…and it’s coming to New York!
After that: onto Hollywood Fringe and then...Edinburgh!
Hellllooooo, Stawberrrries!
BIG FUN ANNOUNCEMENT: I wrote a solo show, and I’ll be performing it in Brooklyn on April 28! Poster and details below — tickets here!
Wait, what??
Yep, I’m bringing the poems from my chapbook to life in this genre-defying solo show! Bursting with humor, heart, and defiant wonder in the face of anxiety, The Funny Thing About A Panic Attack (the show!) uses theater, dance, and poetry to reveal the connections between mental health, art, and pancakes.
What’s the deal with the NYC show?
Great Q, so glad you asked. That performance — Sunday, April 28 at 12:30 pm — will be a work-in-progress (meaning: keep your excitement high and your expectations low), followed by a guided talkback, where I’ll be soliciting your very honest feedback. Snag your tickets here, and follow me on (the hellscape that is) Instagram for updates.
Gah! I can’t make it to New York. Are you performing anywhere else?
Yes! TFTAAPA (a very clunky-yet-character-count-saving acronym for the show) will also be at the Hollywood Fringe Fest in Los Angeles on these dates at these very silly times (tickets go live in May; stay tuned!):
Sun, 6/9 @ 11:00 am (preview)
Thu, 6/20 @ 5:00 pm
Sat, 6/22 @ 11:55 pm
Wed, 6/26 @ 5:00 pm
Fri, 6/28 @ 11:55 pm
I’ll also be performing at the Edinburgh Fringe Fest (yes, that one! in Scotland!) in August. More to come on that as well.
It’s a solo show — does that mean you did everything by yourself?
Definitely not! I’m the writer and performer, but I’ve collaborated with a bona fide DREAM TEAM to bring it to life. TFTAAPA is directed by the award-winning Joanna Simmons, with music by Matt Lipkins (aka Lippy of The Shadowboxers) and choreography by Emory dance faculty Julio Medina aka Professor J. The poster is by Keri Goff, the former creative director at DoSomething…who is also a freelancer and open to work so you should definitely hire her!!
Anything else?
Not really — just that I’m very excited and nervous and grateful and terrified and excited!
A million thanks and a million strawberries to you all,
Ben
