Hello, all!
Wishing a happy (almost!) Passover and a Ramadan Mubarak to all those celebrating, and sending love & thanks to everyone, regardless.
Let’s jump right in…
1. Poem: “Ode To My Childhood Alter-Ego”
A love letter to Adrion Skot, my stage name, alter-ego and, perhaps, my imaginary friend. An excerpt:
(Psst…if you’re compelled, you can give up to 50 lil’ “claps” at the bottom of the piece. Thank you!)
2. Company: Repurpose
I’ve been writing blog posts and working on content strategy for Repurpose, an LA-based, woman-owned company selling plant-based and compostable home goods. My parents have long been my composting role models (and, ya know, my general role models), and since moving into our new place, Kristen and I have converted to enthusiastic composters as well. If you’re interested, here’s a lil’ thing I wrote to get you started on your composting journey.
3. Recommendation: “A Little Devil in America: In Praise of Black Performance” (Book)
There is a strong chance I’ve encouraged you to read They Can’t Kill Us Until They Kill Us, the incredible essay collection by Columbus-based poet, writer, and MacArthur Genius winner Hanif Abdurraqib. I’d recommend his latest essay collection, A Little Devil in America just as enthusiastically: a painful, jubilant, gorgeous, meditation on, and celebration of, Aretha Franklin, Patti LaBelle, Billy Dee Williams, Josephine Baker, Wu-Tang Clan, and so many other legends.
