Issue 8: “To hold in your human hands”
My chapbook arrived! Plus: An award nomination for a powerful impact campaign, and a video of the most emotionally intelligent toddler in the world.
Strawberries,
You sweet things, you! Thanks so much for being here once again.
Let’s get right to it.
1. Poetry: My chapbook arrived!
As they said in Poltergeist, “They’re heeeere!”
Copies of my chapbook, The Funny Thing About A Panic Attack, ~just~ arrived, and it is very, VERY exciting to see these poems to go from thoughts in my brain, to words on the screen, to links on the internet, to real-live actual books you can see and smell and hold in your human hands! Massive thanks to so, SO many of you for helping bring this to life.
Once your copies arrive, I’d love, love, love to see. If you’re inclined/comfortable, consider posting a photo of the chapbook on ol’ IG. It’d be swell if you could:
Tag your boy, me (@bkassoy)
Tag the publisher (@bottlecappress)
Include a link to the chapbook
Or…feel free just to send pics directly to me – it would make my day! Regardless, thanks a million for supporting my work…and happy reading!
2. Impact Work: Our Descendant Impact Campaign Is Nominated For A Shorty Award! (Documentary + Campaign)
Descendant is a riveting, timely, gorgeously-told documentary about how the past – and the truth – are always present. In the film, produced by Participant and available on Netflix, award-winning filmmaker Margaret Brown returns to her hometown of Mobile, Alabama, to document the search for and historic discovery of The Clotilda, the last known ship to arrive in the United States, illegally carrying 110 kidnapped Africans.
I had the privilege of working on marketing for the film, and contributing to its corresponding impact campaign, which supports Black-owned community organizations in Alabama, amplifies often-silenced stories of our shared history, and helps Black Americans discover their legacies and relatives. The campaign was nominated for a Shorty Award, and the documentary is definitely worth a watch.
3. Recommendation: A Toddler And His Mom Give Us All A Lesson In Emotional Regulation And Expressing Our Feelings (Instagram Video)
I’ll just step aside. Enjoy!
Aaaand that’s all!
With love and thanks and strawberries and dreidels,
Ben
